根据美国马利斯特民意调查，“whatever”继续稳坐“最令人讨厌的日常会话用语”的冠军宝座，有39%的美国人都厌恶这个经常被漫不经心抛出口的词。另外，有28%的人认为完全多余的“like”（就像是）最令人恼火，有15%的人觉得“YouknowwhatImean”（你懂的）是最失态的话，而“Totellyouthetruth”（跟你说实话）和“actually”（事实上）分别以10%和5%紧随其后。最后还有3%的人不确定自己最讨厌的日常用语是什么。

不过对于这个问题，18到29岁的年轻人有不同的看法。年轻人中有44%不介意让“like”一词从日常会话中彻底消失，而年长一辈对此却不认同。30到44岁的人中有37%认为“whatever”最令他们厌烦，而45到59岁的人中有46%，六十岁以上则有40%。
