<正>To fulfill its function, the airway epithelium comprises different specialized cells, e.g ciliated cells and mucus-producing cells, which contribute to the mucociliary clearance of the respiratory tract. Immortalized cells cannot perform these functions. Therefore, to analyze the interaction of respiratory pathogens with airway epithelial cells, it is necessary to use differentiated airway epithelial cells. We apply two culture systems for differentiated respiratory epithelial cells:precision-cut lung slices and air-liquid interface cultures.
