Progress of GeoheritageInvestigation and Construction of Geoparks in Shanxi Province

论文摘要

As a northern province of China, Shanxi Provinceislocatedin the Loess Plateau on the middle part of the Yellow River, with a provincial area of 156,700 km2. The Taihang Mountains, which runs through the north and south, is located on the east side of Shanxi. The Lüliang Mountains, which stretch for hundreds of kilometers like a whale’s backbone, are located on the west side of Shanxi. The ancient Yellow River, which once nurtured the Chinese nation, carved a magnificent chasm with its majestic power, like a mother taking Shanxi into her arms.In the long history of 3.2 Ga, the sea and land that are as magnificent as epics have changed, forming the mountains and rivers of today’s magnificent beauty.Shanxi Province is not only the source of China’s 5,000-year-old history and culture, but alsois rich of natural resources and breathtaking scenery. It is a land blessed by nature, for rich mineral resources and extremely rich, precious and characteristic geoheritage resources. In recent years, the Department of Natural Resource of Shanxi Province has systematically investigated and studied the geoheritage resources of Shanxi Province, and successively organized and completed 6 geoheritagesurvey projects. Up to now, survey acreage of geoheritage in Shanxi Province has reached 96,000 km2, accounting for 60% of the provincial land acreage. A total of 343 geoheritageof 3 super categories, 10 categories and 24 sub-categories have been investigated, including 14 world-class and 131 at nationalthe level, 198 at the provincial level. Among these important geoheritage, there are dozens of national-level typical stratified sections, as well as unique Taihang Mountains Grand Canyon, red gangue rock landforms, carbonate peaks and caves, Datong volcanic group, Ningwu ice cave, the Hukou Waterfalls of the Yellow River, the Snake Valley of the Yellow River, the Yuncheng Salt Lake, andthe Huaxia flora site, the silicified wood site, the Dingcun site and Xihoudu site, as well as the Datong Jinhua Palace coal mining site and Antaibao coal mining site. With the continuous investigation and study of geoheritage, the number of geoheritage in Shanxi Province will continue to increase. While investigating geological heritage and striving to clarify them, we(the Department of Natural Resource of Shanxi Province) will constantly strengthen the protection of geological heritage. So far, there are 25 geoparks in Shanxi Province, including 10 national geoparks, 9 provincial geoparks, 4 national fossilsites, 2 national mine parks. Construction of the above geoparks has received strong support from national and provincial financial funds. According to statistics, there are 30 geoheritage protection projects organized and implemented in Shanxi Province, with a project funding of 141.04 million yuan, including 23 national financial funds support projects; 7 provincial financial funds support projects, with a total funding of 22.12 million yuan. The implementation of these projects has
